    Match Highlight: Keyrone & Devin

Matched in February 2016, Keyrone and Devin’s relationship stands as a powerful example of the life-changing impact of long-term mentorship. What began as a weekly, site-based match quickly grew into something much deeper, transitioning into a community-based relationship and, over time, a strong virtual connection that has continued to thrive—even across state lines after Devin relocated to New Jersey.

For nearly a decade, Devin has been a consistent source of guidance, encouragement, and stability in Keyrone’s life. Through every stage of his growth, he has shown up—not only as a mentor, but as a trusted role model and lifelong supporter. Today, Keyrone is a high school senior who exemplifies excellence and perseverance. He has maintained A Honor Roll status, earned National Honor Society recognition, and continues to succeed as a dedicated student-athlete. Beyond academics and sports, Keyrone has discovered new talents, including a passion for painting, demonstrating his creativity and willingness to explore new opportunities.

Their bond extends far beyond achievements—it is rooted in trust, resilience, and genuine care. Devin has supported Keyrone through both milestones and challenges, helping shape his confidence, character, and vision for the future. Keyrone now plans to attend college in Fall 2026, where he will major in Psychology with the goal of becoming a Sports Psychologist, using his experiences to uplift others.

Their remarkable journey was highlighted at the 2026 Gala, where Devin traveled from New Jersey to stand beside Keyrone and share their story. In a deeply emotional moment, Devin asked Keyrone to be a groomsman in his upcoming wedding—a powerful reflection of the brotherhood and family bond they have built over the years. Watching them celebrate alongside their loved ones was a true testament to how far they have both come.

Keyrone and Devin’s match goes beyond mentorship—it represents commitment, consistency, and the transformative power of showing up. Their story is a lasting reminder that when a young person is supported, believed in, and guided with care, the impact can extend far beyond childhood and into a lifetime of success and meaningful connection.

Match of the Month: Little Sister Alexa and Big Sister Shandani

Alexa and Shandani’s journey together began in the fall of 2019 when they were matched in the community-based program, and from the very start, their bond has only gotten stronger. Shandani has been an incredible mentor to Alexa, offering her support when the pressures of school and life feel overwhelming. Both Alexa and Shandani are high achievers, and while that drive is inspiring, it sometimes leads to stress. But Shandani has been there for Alexa, helping her navigate those tough moments and reminding her to take a step back and breathe.

The fun they have together is also a big part of their relationship. They love eating out, going shopping, and attending BBBS events like the recent Valentine’s Day celebration, where they spent time doing arts and crafts and decorating cookies. It was a day full of creativity and fun, and it’s just one of the many memories they’ve created together. Alexa says that the best part of having a Big Sister is simply spending time together—those moments of laughter and joy that they share. She especially values that Shandani is always there to listen, offer advice, and just be a source of positivity.

One of Alexa’s favorite memories with Shandani is from when she was in 6th grade, and they spent a fun day building gingerbread houses for Christmas. It’s those little moments that have made such a lasting impact on Alexa.

Shandani isn’t just a mentor to Alexa—she’s become part of her family. Alexa’s family warmly considers Shandani a close friend, and they even invited her to Alexa’s XV party to celebrate this special milestone in Alexa’s life. That invitation speaks volumes about the deep connection and trust they’ve built over the years.

A big part of their success also comes from the support they’ve received from Adriana, the Director of Mentoring. Adriana has been a key part of their journey, making sure they have all the resources and guidance they need to keep their relationship strong. Alexa and Shandani both agree that her support has been invaluable.

For Shandani, her experience with the program has been incredibly meaningful. “Throughout our time together, I’ve had the privilege of watching Alexa grow, overcome challenges, and achieve her goals. It’s been a lot of fun learning from her and growing together,” she says.

Alexa and Shandani’s match is a beautiful reminder of what mentorship is all about—building trust, offering support, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
