Matched since February 2016 | Site-Based to Community-Based & Virtual Match

What started as a simple after-school connection has grown into a life-changing bond that’s lasted nearly a decade.

Keyrone and Devin were first matched in February 2016 through our site-based mentoring program, meeting weekly at an after-school site. But it wasn’t long before their connection outgrew the classroom. Wanting to spend more time together and explore new experiences, they transitioned into our community-based program, where they took part in exciting outings like visiting High Point University and exploring fun activities around the Triad.

Now, almost ten years later, their match is still going strong—even from a distance. After Devin graduated and moved to New Jersey, they’ve continued their relationship through video calls, online gaming, and deep conversations about their goals, futures, and dreams.

Keyrone is now a rising high school senior for the 2025–2026 school year, and he just completed the year with all A’s, maintaining A honor roll status throughout his junior year—a tremendous academic achievement that reflects his discipline, determination, and the steady encouragement of his Big.

From Keyrone:
“Devin has been there for me in so many different ways, in and outside of the classroom. He’s taught me how to be a good student—but more importantly, how to be a better man. I honestly believe that if I wasn’t part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, I’d be a completely different person. I’ve known Devin since I was 8 or 9, and I’m 18 now. I still consider him my hero. That’s a testament to how influential he and this program have been to me.
Thank you to Ms. Adriana and Big Brothers Big Sisters for matching us, for taking me and my brother on trips, and for helping with school supplies. This program has changed not only my life—but my whole family’s life.”

Devin, in turn, has found just as much inspiration in their relationship.

From Devin:
*“Keyrone has been a tremendous inspiration in my life and has helped me become a better person in countless ways. He’s caring, selfless, and always strives to be the bigger person.

Our bond has grown to where we can talk about anything—sports, school, his experiences at Upward Bound camp, or the colleges he’s most excited about visiting. One of the most powerful moments was watching him navigate the loss of his grandmother Darlene, who had been both a mother and father figure to him and his brother Marquise. The strength, leadership, and resilience Keyrone showed through that time was extraordinary.

He’s maintained an A honor roll status all junior year and earned recognition in the National Society of Honor Scholars. His growth is a reminder that with determination and support, anything is possible.

Keyrone and Marquise are family to me now. The bond we’ve built through Big Brothers Big Sisters is one of the most meaningful parts of my life, and I’m honored to continue supporting him as he enters his senior year and beyond.”*

This match is a powerful example of the lasting impact of mentorship. From site-based beginnings to virtual check-ins and late-night gaming chats, Keyrone and Devin continue to redefine what it means to show up for one another—consistently, compassionately, and with purpose.

We’re proud to celebrate them as our Match of the Month, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for this incredible pair.
