Little Sister: A’nylah Big Sister: Danielle

Since their match in Fall 2022 through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, Big Sister Danielle and her Little A’nylah, a 7th grader, have developed a strong bond at their afterschool JEDI mentoring center, meeting twice a month. Their sessions include focusing on homework, playing fun games like Pictionary, and discussing school experiences and aspirations.

Danielle, a junior majoring in Criminal Justice with dreams of becoming an attorney, serves as a positive role model for A’nylah, who aims to be a doctor. A’nylah, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, has excelled in her studies, earning mostly A’s on her recent report card, with just one B in math. Their friendly and talkative dynamic fosters a supportive environment where A’nylah feels encouraged to achieve her academic goals. Their match is overseen by Adriana Medel, the Director of Site-Based Mentoring, who ensures they have the support they need. During the recent Hispanic Heritage Day celebration, they enjoyed playing Lotería, the Mexican version of Bingo, participated in crafts for Day of the Dead, and savored delicious Mexican bread. These experiences further enriched their mentoring journey, deepening their cultural connection and friendship
