Over the past year and three months, the mentorship between Inara and Dream has exemplified outstanding dedication, adaptability, and impact. During this past semester, Inara had an obligation to study abroad in Melbourne, Australia, yet her commitment to Dream remained unwavering. Despite the significant time zone difference between Melbourne, Australia, and Greensboro, North Carolina, Inara prioritized maintaining consistent communication with her mentee.
Dream’s availability was limited to a narrow window from 9:50 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (Greensboro, NC time). This meant that Inara was meeting with Dream during the early morning hours in Australia—approximately 1:50 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. Melbourne time. Even with these challenges, Inara consistently conducted virtual visits via FaceTime, demonstrating remarkable dedication, consideration, and reliability.
Inara’s commitment proved to be positively influential, as Dream continued to show noticeable improvements in both her academic performance and social engagement. Since returning from abroad, Inara resumed in-person visits and continued the match without missing a beat. To top it all, Inara even brought Dream a Koala Bear toy souvenir to represent the experience(s) shared together during that time. Both Inara and Dream continue to remain committed to their mentorship relationship as this match continues to highlight the power of consistency, sacrifice, and genuine care.
