Seven (Little) and Matthew (Big)
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont is pleased to share Seven and Matthew’s match story! They have been matched since fall semester 2019 within our site based program until now. Before the pandemic, Matthew would visit Seven at school once a week for one hour. Seven was in the second grade, and Matthew was a freshman at HPU. They have become close as Matthew has been a reliable Big and showed consistency and a positive attitude in his visits. Seven has shared many times how much fun he has each time Matthew and him spend time together. Seven has had the opportunity to visit HPU to attend Lacrosse clinics sponsored by the HPU Lacrosse team. Seven has also attended other special events such as fall and spring festivals, and Christmas shopping at Target with his Big Matthew.
During the pandemic, his Big Brother Matthew stayed in touch with Seven via phone calls and letters. Since fall 2021 until now they started seeing each other in person at our after school program “Sports Buddies.” In this program they attend tennis clinics, play basketball, football and baseball. They have mentioned they look forward to seeing each other each time.
Matthew is a senior at HPU, he is a business administration major and he also plays Lacrosse. When they were first matched, Seven was in the 2nd grade and Matthew was a Freshman in college. Now, Seven is in the 5th grade and Matthew is a senior. Matthew shared “Being Seven’s mentor has been life changing. To be able to make an impact on his life and be a role model to him is such a rewarding experience. I enjoy being able to teach him lessons as I watch him grow into a smart young man!”
